The Long Road

 Taken out on the old Lorne Road, Lightning Ridge N.S.W. 5.12.14 at 9:09pm EDST.
 
Another semi-decent one from the recent storms. I just wish that I had a bit more fuel in the ute to get out to the base of this nice little cell -provided I had found a road that went in the general direction and that wasn't a private property of course. I was still a good ten to fifteen kilometres away here. A nice safety margin at least

I had left this spot soon after this as a much larger storm was pushing in towards town from the West (around to the right side here) fairly quickly and this one was beginning to stall, split away (secondary core forming on the left of shot) and subsequently cull the lightning activity somewhat.
I think I only managed one or two shots from the new area in town due to severe winds and very heavy rain. I missed one beauty of a bolt just out of frame that I still may post as it lit up the RFB and leading front nicely.

Nice to have a full Moon directly behind me lighting up the foreground now and again whilst it was peeking in and out of the clouds. A few stars are slightly visible here, though I was at risk of over exposing the lightning should any staccato bolts show up. Always a careful balance between ISO and Aperture in storms like this, particularly as the Sun is setting rapidly on dusk. These are always the fun times of lightning photography.
