On Approach

Taken out on the Newtown opal fields, Lightning Ridge N.S.W. on the 9.12.12 at 11:55pm EDST.

Finally reaching the western edge of town here. This was the storm on approach from the West. It was hitting the Grawin opal fields about forty kilometres out at this stage.

The lightning in storm was simply unbelievable! It remained highly active for over four hours. I almost left it around midnight as I figured it might slip by. This was not to be the case and it was lucky my conscious told me to stick it out for another hour or so. It made a sharp right hand turn around 1am and came straight for me!!! Oh yeah! It was about to become quite scary standing out in the dark there by myself

Oh, and how amazing is that cloud base!? Never really noticed it out there due to the darkness.
